Part 2 of 6UP PCS-J

Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service (Civil Judge) selection is run by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The long-standing pattern is Prelims (two papers) → Mains (six written papers) → Interview.

Preliminary examination

Paper Content Marks (typical) Duration
Paper I General Knowledge 150 2 hours
Paper II Law 300 2 hours

Prelims is objective. Paper II carries the heavier law weight (Constitution, property, evidence, BNS/IPC, CPC, BNSS/CrPC, contract, and related heads as in the syllabus). Qualifying rules and negative marking, if any, are notification-specific. Prelims generally screens for Mains rather than feeding final merit.

Mains examination

Paper Subject Marks (typical)
1 General Knowledge 200
2 English Language 100
3 Hindi Language 100
4 Law-I (Substantive Law) 200
5 Law-II (Procedure & Evidence) 200
6 Law-III (Penal, Revenue & Local Laws) 200

Language papers often decide ranks among candidates with similar law scores. Law-III is where U.P. local and revenue laws become decisive.

Interview

Viva voce (commonly 100 marks in public schemes) follows Mains. Final merit combines written and interview marks as per the year’s rules.
