Imagine that the state of Nagaland is approaching its legislative assembly elections. According to Section 11 of The State of Nagaland Act, 1962, the legislative assembly should consist of 60 directly elected members. However, due to special provisions under article 371A, for a certain period, the assembly has only 52 seats.

Out of these 52 seats, 12 are reserved for the Tuensang district. These 12 seats are not filled through direct election but are chosen by the members of the regional council of Tuensang. The Governor, after consulting the regional council, will specify the method of selection through a notification.
