Imagine you are a journalist who has filed an RTI (Right to Information) request seeking details about a government contract with a private company. The contract includes sensitive commercial information that is exempt from disclosure under the RTI Act. However, the contract also contains information about the selection process and the criteria used for awarding the contract, which is not exempt.

In this scenario, the Public Information Officer (PIO) would apply Section 10 of the RTI Act. They would provide you with the selection process and criteria information while withholding the sensitive commercial information. The PIO would also inform you that only part of the record has been provided, state the reasons for not disclosing the exempt part, and give you details about the decision-maker, the fee for the information provided, and your rights to appeal the decision or question the fee charged.
