Example 1:
Ravi is a local shop owner in a small town. He has a competitor, Suresh, who recently opened a new shop nearby. Ravi, feeling threatened by the competition, tells Suresh, "If you don't close your shop within a week, I will spread false rumors about your business and ruin your reputation in the community." Suresh, fearing damage to his reputation, considers closing his shop. In this scenario, Ravi is committing criminal intimidation by threatening to harm Suresh's reputation to cause alarm and force him to close his shop.
Example 2:
Priya is a college student who recently broke up with her boyfriend, Raj. Upset by the breakup, Raj sends Priya a message saying, "If you don't get back together with me, I will leak your private photos online." Priya, alarmed by the threat, feels pressured to reconcile with Raj. Here, Raj is guilty of criminal intimidation as he is threatening to harm Priya's reputation to cause alarm and compel her to act against her will.
Example 3:
Arjun is a tenant living in a rented apartment. His landlord, Mr. Sharma, wants to evict him to rent the apartment to someone else at a higher price. Mr. Sharma tells Arjun, "If you don't vacate the apartment by the end of the month, I will file a false police complaint against you for theft." Arjun, fearing legal trouble, considers moving out.
