Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Rahul and Priya decide to get married. However, Rahul is already legally married to another woman, which he hides from Priya. They go through a marriage ceremony, and Priya believes she is now lawfully married to Rahul. Later, Priya discovers Rahul's first marriage and realizes that their marriage is not legally valid. Rahul can be charged under Section 496 of the Indian Penal Code for fraudulently going through a marriage ceremony without the intention of a lawful marriage.

Example 2:

Sunita and Rajesh have been in a relationship for a few years. Rajesh, who is already married to another woman, convinces Sunita to go through a marriage ceremony with him, promising her that they will be legally married. Rajesh knows that their marriage cannot be lawful because he is still married to his first wife. Sunita later finds out about Rajesh's first marriage and understands that their marriage is not legally valid. Rajesh can be prosecuted under Section 496 of the Indian Penal Code for dishonestly going through a marriage ceremony without the intention of a lawful marriage.
