Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Rahul, a 30-year-old man, meets Priya, a 28-year-old woman, through a mutual friend. Over time, Rahul convinces Priya that he is deeply in love with her and proposes marriage. He arranges a fake wedding ceremony with the help of some friends who pose as priests and witnesses. Priya, believing that she is now lawfully married to Rahul, moves in with him and they start living together as husband and wife. After a few months, Priya discovers that the marriage was never legally registered and that Rahul had deceived her. Under Section 493 of the Indian Penal Code, Rahul can be prosecuted for deceitfully inducing Priya to believe that she was lawfully married to him and cohabiting with her under that false belief.

Example 2:

Vikram, a businessman, meets Anjali, a young woman from a small town, during a business trip. Vikram, who is already married, hides his marital status and pretends to be single. He tells Anjali that he wants to marry her and arranges a private wedding ceremony. Anjali, unaware of Vikram's deceit, believes that she is now his lawful wife and starts living with him. After several months, Anjali finds out that Vikram is already married to another woman and that their marriage was a sham. Vikram can be charged under Section 493 of the Indian Penal Code for deceitfully making Anjali believe that she was lawfully married to him and cohabiting with her based on that false belief.
