Example 1:

Ravi is a small business owner in Mumbai. One day, a local gangster named Arjun approaches Ravi and demands ₹50,000 as "protection money." Arjun threatens Ravi, saying that if he does not pay the money, Arjun will have his men severely beat Ravi and his family. Fearing for his and his family's safety, Ravi reluctantly agrees to pay the money. In this scenario, Arjun has committed an offense under Section 387 of the Indian Penal Code by putting Ravi in fear of grievous hurt in order to extort money from him.

Example 2:

Priya is a college student in Delhi. She receives a phone call from an unknown number. The caller, who identifies himself as Raj, claims to have kidnapped Priya's younger brother and demands ₹1 lakh for his safe return. Raj threatens that if Priya does not pay the money, her brother will be killed. Terrified, Priya arranges to gather the money. However, before she can make the payment, she contacts the police, who manage to trace the call and arrest Raj. In this case, Raj has committed an offense under Section 387 by putting Priya in fear of death in order to extort money from her.
