Example 1:

Ravi, a local thief, decides to break into Mr. Sharma's house at night with the intention of stealing valuable jewelry. He carefully waits until the family is asleep and then breaks a window to enter the house. While inside, he is caught by Mr. Sharma's son, who immediately calls the police. Ravi is arrested and charged under Section 454 of the Indian Penal Code for house-breaking with the intent to commit theft. Since the intended offence is theft, Ravi could face imprisonment for up to ten years and a fine.

Example 2:

Sunita, who holds a grudge against her neighbor Mrs. Gupta, plans to sneak into Mrs. Gupta's house to destroy some important documents. She waits until Mrs. Gupta leaves for work and then uses a duplicate key to enter the house without permission. Sunita is caught by a security camera and later arrested. She is charged under Section 454 of the Indian Penal Code for lurking house-trespass with the intent to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment. Sunita could be sentenced to imprisonment for up to three years and a fine.
