Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Ravi, a local thief, breaks into Mr. Sharma's house at night with the intention of stealing valuable jewelry. He is caught by the police while attempting to escape with the stolen items. Since Ravi committed house-trespass with the intention of committing theft, he can be punished under Section 451 of the Indian Penal Code with imprisonment that may extend to seven years and may also be liable to pay a fine.

Example 2:

Sunil, who has a grudge against his neighbor Mr. Verma, enters Mr. Verma's house without permission with the intention of physically assaulting him. Sunil is caught by Mr. Verma's family before he can carry out the assault. Since Sunil committed house-trespass with the intention of committing an offence punishable with imprisonment (assault), he can be punished under Section 451 of the Indian Penal Code with imprisonment that may extend to two years and may also be liable to pay a fine.
