Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Ravi, a shopkeeper, sells a gold necklace to Priya, claiming it to be 24-carat gold. Priya later discovers that the necklace is only 18-carat gold. Ravi knowingly misrepresented the quality of the gold to make a profit. Under Section 417 of the Indian Penal Code, Ravi can be punished for cheating, which may result in imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both.
Example 2:
Anil, a real estate agent, convinces Sunita to buy a plot of land by showing her fake documents that claim the land is free from any legal disputes. After purchasing the land, Sunita finds out that the land is actually embroiled in multiple legal issues. Anil intentionally deceived Sunita to make a sale. According to Section 417 of the Indian Penal Code, Anil can be held liable for cheating and may face imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both.
