Example 1:
Ravi, a 35-year-old man, forcibly raped a 28-year-old woman named Priya. During the assault, Ravi inflicted severe injuries on Priya, which led to her being in a persistent vegetative state. Under Section 376A of the Indian Penal Code, Ravi is charged with causing Priya to be in a persistent vegetative state while committing the offence of rape. As a result, Ravi faces rigorous imprisonment for a term not less than twenty years, which may extend to life imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life, or even the death penalty.
Example 2:
Ajay, a 40-year-old man, raped a 10-year-old girl named Meera. The assault was so brutal that Meera succumbed to her injuries and died. Under Section 376AB of the Indian Penal Code, Ajay is charged with raping a woman under twelve years of age and causing her death. Consequently, Ajay faces rigorous imprisonment for a term not less than twenty years, which may extend to life imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life, and he may also be sentenced to death. Additionally, Ajay is required to pay a fine that is just and reasonable to cover Meera's medical expenses and rehabilitation, which will be paid to her family.
