Explanation using Example
Example 1:
Ravi and Suresh have a long-standing feud. One day, Ravi decides to end it by killing Suresh. He waits for Suresh to come out of his house and then shoots at him with a gun. Fortunately, the bullet only grazes Suresh's arm, causing a minor injury. In this scenario, Ravi can be charged under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code for attempting to murder Suresh. Even though Suresh did not die, Ravi's intention and actions were clear attempts to commit murder.
Example 2:
Meena, a life convict serving a sentence for a previous murder, gets into a heated argument with another inmate, Priya. In a fit of rage, Meena stabs Priya with a sharp object she found in the prison. Priya survives the attack but is severely injured. Since Meena is already serving a life sentence and caused hurt to Priya, she can be punished with the death penalty under the provision for attempts by life-convicts in Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
Example 3:
Rajesh, who is deeply in debt, decides to kill his wealthy uncle to inherit his property. He buys poison and mixes it into his uncle's food. However, before his uncle consumes the food, Rajesh's plan is discovered by a family member who alerts the authorities. Rajesh can be charged under Section 307 for attempting to murder his uncle, even though the uncle did not consume the poisoned food. Rajesh's actions and intentions were sufficient to constitute an attempt to murder.
Example 4:
Anita, a mother of a newborn, is suffering from severe postpartum depression. In a moment of despair, she leaves her baby in a deserted alley, hoping the child will not survive. A passerby finds the baby and saves it. Anita can be charged under Section 307 for attempting to murder her child, as her actions were intended to cause the child's death, even though the child was ultimately saved.
Example 5:
During a heated political rally, a rival politician, Vikram, throws a stone at the speaker, hoping to kill him. The stone hits the speaker on the head, causing a serious injury but not death. Vikram can be charged under Section 307 for attempting to murder the speaker, as his intention and actions were aimed at causing the speaker's death.
