Example 1:
Ravi, who holds a grudge against a particular religious community, decides to disrupt a funeral ceremony being held at a local cemetery. He enters the cemetery without permission and starts shouting offensive remarks about the deceased and the religion of the mourners. His actions cause significant distress to the family and friends of the deceased. Under Section 297 of the Indian Penal Code, Ravi can be charged with trespassing on a burial place with the intention of insulting the religion of the mourners and causing disturbance during the funeral ceremony. He may face imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both.
Example 2:
Sunita, in an attempt to insult a rival community, sneaks into a temple late at night and vandalizes the area where ashes of the deceased are kept. She knows that her actions will deeply hurt the sentiments of the community members who consider the temple a sacred place. The next morning, the community members find the desecration and are deeply offended. Sunita's actions fall under Section 297 of the Indian Penal Code as she trespassed into a place of worship with the knowledge that her actions would wound the feelings of the community and insult their religion. She can be punished with imprisonment for up to one year, a fine, or both.
