Explanation using Example

Example 1:

Ravi is a shopkeeper in a small town in India. One day, his friend, Suresh, is caught by the police for allegedly committing a theft. When the police come to arrest Suresh, Ravi tries to block the police officers from entering his shop and physically pushes them away. Despite being warned, Ravi continues to resist the police officers' attempts to lawfully apprehend Suresh. Under Section 225 of the Indian Penal Code, Ravi can be punished with imprisonment for up to two years, or with a fine, or both, for intentionally obstructing the lawful apprehension of Suresh.

Example 2:

Priya's brother, Arjun, is arrested for a serious crime that is punishable with imprisonment for life. While Arjun is being transported to the police station, Priya and her friends attempt to rescue him by attacking the police vehicle and trying to free Arjun. They manage to temporarily stop the vehicle but are eventually overpowered by the police. Under Section 225 of the Indian Penal Code, Priya and her friends can be punished with imprisonment for up to three years, and also be liable to a fine, for attempting to rescue Arjun, who is charged with an offence punishable with imprisonment for life.

Example 3:

Ramesh is sentenced to life imprisonment for a heinous crime. While being transferred from the court to the prison, his cousin, Sunil, tries to bribe the police officers to let Ramesh escape. When the bribery attempt fails, Sunil physically tries to free Ramesh from police custody. Under Section 225 of the Indian Penal Code, Sunil can be punished with imprisonment for up to seven years, and also be liable to a fine, for attempting to rescue Ramesh, who is under a sentence of life imprisonment.

Example 4:

Anita's husband, Vijay, is sentenced to death for a capital offence. On the day of his scheduled execution, Anita and a group of supporters storm the prison gates in an attempt to rescue Vijay. They are unsuccessful and are arrested by the police. Under Section 225 of the Indian Penal Code, Anita and her supporters can be punished with imprisonment for life or imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, and also be liable to a fine, for attempting to rescue Vijay, who is under a sentence of death.
