Imagine a local woodcutter finds a pile of timber in a forest and claims it as his own, believing it to be the remnants of his previous day's work. He approaches the Forest Officer to retrieve it. The Forest Officer, applying Section 47(1) of The Indian Forest Act, 1927, investigates the claim. After consideration, he decides that the woodcutter's claim is valid and hands over the timber to him.
