Explanation using Example

For instance, suppose Rita and Raj had an arranged marriage, and during their wedding, they received a car as a gift from their parents. After a few years, Rita files for divorce. In the divorce proceedings, the court, under Section 27 of The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, has the authority to decide what happens to the car, as it was a gift presented at the time of their marriage and is considered to belong to both Rita and Raj. The court may order that the car be sold and the proceeds divided between them, or it may award the car to one party as part of the divorce decree, depending on what it considers fair and proper in the circumstances.
