Explanation using Example

Imagine a worker named Raj who is employed in a factory that manufactures textiles. According to Section 56 of The Factories Act, 1948, Raj's work schedule should be planned in such a way that, when you add up the actual work hours and the rest intervals as per Section 55, the total time from when he starts to when he finishes his workday does not exceed ten and a half hours.

For example, if Raj starts his shift at 9 AM, he should finish by 7:30 PM at the latest, including his breaks. However, if there's a special circumstance that requires extended work hours, the Chief Inspector has the authority to permit a longer workday, but no more than twelve hours, as long as he provides a written reason for this exception.
