Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where Mr. Sharma purchases a refrigerator from a local electronics store. After two weeks, the refrigerator stops working. He files a complaint with the District Consumer Commission for a defective product. During the initial hearing, the Commission observes that both the store and Mr. Sharma are open to an amicable resolution.
The Commission suggests mediation as a way to resolve the dispute and asks both parties to submit their written consent within five days. Mr. Sharma and the store manager agree to this approach and provide their consent for mediation. Subsequently, the District Commission refers the matter to mediation within the next five days, following the procedures laid out in Chapter V of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
