Explanation using Example

Imagine that Raj wants to gift his niece, Priya, a valuable painting he currently owns and also promises to gift her any painting he may acquire in the future. According to Section 124 of The Transfer of Property Act, 1882, while the gift of the existing painting is valid, the promise to gift any future paintings is void. This means Priya can legally claim the painting Raj already owns, but she has no legal claim to any paintings Raj might purchase later.
