Explanation using Example

Imagine three friends, Raj, Simran, and Aman, who jointly purchase a vacation home. Raj owns 50% of the property, while Simran and Aman each own 25%. They decide to sell a 10% stake in the property to their friend Karan but do not specify whose portion of the ownership the 10% will come from. According to Section 47 of the Transfer of Property Act, 1882, the sale to Karan will be distributed proportionately among Raj, Simran, and Aman. Therefore, Karan's 10% stake acquisition will result in Raj's ownership reducing by 5%, and Simran and Aman's ownership each reducing by 2.5%.
