Explanation using Example

Imagine that Rita, who is alive and well, owns a piece of land. She decides to sell this land to Tom. Rita and Tom sign a contract where Rita agrees to transfer the title of the land to Tom upon receipt of the payment. This scenario is an example of a transfer of property as defined by Section 5 of The Transfer of Property Act, 1882. Here, Rita, a living person, conveys property (the land) to another living person, Tom. The act of signing the contract and agreeing to pass the title in the future is the act of transferring property.
