Explanation using Example
Imagine a company, TechChip Innovations, has developed a new layout-design for a semiconductor integrated circuit. They have not yet registered the design under The Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout-Design Act, 2000. Despite this, in their marketing materials and on their website, they use the term "registered design" to describe their product.
A competitor notices this and files a complaint. The authorities investigate and find that TechChip Innovations indeed claimed the design as registered when it was not. Under Section 57 of the Act, TechChip Innovations could face a penalty. The director of the company could be sentenced to imprisonment for up to six months, or fined up to fifty thousand rupees, or both, for making false representations about the registration status of their layout-design.
