Summary
The Scheduled Areas (Assimilation of Laws) Act, 1953, was enacted to extend the application of certain laws to the Scheduled Areas and to ensure that the laws were not in conflict with the customs, social and religious practices of the tribal population residing in these areas. The act provides for the protection of the rights of the tribal population and prohibits the transfer of land in the Scheduled Areas to non-tribal persons without the prior approval of the State Government.
