Explanation using Example

Imagine the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is in need of a new Director. As per Section 20(1) of The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act, 2007, the Central Government will appoint the new Director. The terms and conditions of the appointment, such as salary and tenure, will be as per the rules provided by the Statutes. However, if this is the first Director since the Statutes came into effect, the Central Government has the flexibility to set the terms as it sees fit, but only for a maximum period of six months.

Once appointed, the Director, according to Section 20(2), will oversee the academic and administrative functions of RGIPT. This includes ensuring high standards of teaching, research, and managing the day-to-day operations. The Director will also be in charge of maintaining discipline among students and staff.

In line with Section 20(3), at the end of each academic year, the Director must prepare and submit a report detailing the institute's performance and financial accounts to the Board of Governors of RGIPT.

Additionally, as per Section 20(4), the Director will have other responsibilities and powers that the Act, Statutes, or Ordinances of RGIPT may specify. These could include making key decisions on curriculum development, representing the institute at various forums, or any other duties deemed necessary for the functioning of the institute.
