Explanation using Example

Imagine John is traveling by train in a non-smoking compartment. He decides to light a cigarette. Sarah, a fellow passenger, objects to him smoking, citing discomfort due to the smoke. According to Section 167(1) of The Railways Act, 1989, John must refrain from smoking as soon as another passenger objects. If he continues to smoke despite Sarah's objection, he would be violating the law.

In another scenario, the railway administration has declared the entire train as a non-smoking zone, as per their rights under Section 167(2). If John smokes anywhere on this train, he would be disregarding the railway administration's rules.

If John ignores Sarah's objection or the railway administration's prohibition and is caught smoking, he could be fined up to one hundred rupees, as stipulated in Section 167(3).
