Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where a passenger train derails while crossing a bridge, causing several carriages to overturn. This incident results in serious injuries to multiple passengers and significant damage to the railway infrastructure.
In accordance with Section 113 of The Railways Act, 1989, the station master at the nearest railway station to the accident site must immediately inform the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police of the jurisdiction where the accident took place. If there is no station master, the responsibility falls on the railway employee in charge of that section of the railway. Additionally, the local police station and any other designated Magistrate or police officer must be notified as per the Central Government's appointments.
Furthermore, the railway administration operating the section where the derailment happened, along with the administration that owns the train involved in the accident, is required to promptly inform the State Government and the Commissioner who has authority over the accident area.
