Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where two farmers, Aman and Baldev, are disputing the boundaries of their respective fields in a village in Punjab. The matter is brought before a Revenue Officer for resolution under the Punjab Land-Revenue Act, 1887. Both Aman and Baldev are eager to resolve the dispute amicably and are open to third-party intervention.

In this context, the Revenue Officer can invoke Section 127(1) of the Act, with both parties' consent, to refer the dispute to arbitration. An arbitrator would then be appointed to examine the matter, and the decision reached through arbitration would be binding on both parties, thus settling the boundary dispute without further litigation.
