The Punjab District Boards Act, 1883

The Punjab District Boards Act, 1883 was enacted to establish district boards in Punjab for the proper management and administration of local affairs. Under this act, district boards were given the responsibility to construct and maintain public works, regulate land use, and manage sanitation and public health. The act also outlines the powers and duties of the district boards and their members. It was later amended in 1916 to include provisions for the establishment of village panchayats. The act has since been repealed in Punjab, but it remains in force in some other Indian states.
