Explanation using Example
Imagine a situation where Rita, who is married to Karan, is facing domestic violence. Despite the abuse, under Section 17 of The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Rita has the right to continue living in her matrimonial home, which is considered the "shared household." Even if the property is owned by Karan, Rita cannot be legally forced to leave the home simply because she doesn't own the property or have any legal stake in it. If Karan tries to evict her, he would be violating this law, and Rita can seek legal protection to enforce her right to stay in the home.
