Explanation using Example
Imagine a situation where there have been reports of multiple incidents of human rights abuses in a particular region. These abuses could include acts like unlawful detentions, torture, or extrajudicial killings. Despite existing laws and law enforcement agencies, the government recognizes that these human rights violations require specialized attention and expertise to ensure proper investigation and prosecution.
To address this, the government uses its power under Section 37 of The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT). This team is made up of selected police officers with the necessary skills and experience to handle such sensitive cases. The SIT then takes over the investigation and works diligently to gather evidence, identify the perpetrators, and ensure that they are prosecuted according to the law, thereby reinforcing the protection of human rights.
