Explanation using Example
Imagine John has a cheque he received from Alice, which he deposits in his bank. Unfortunately, the cheque bounces due to insufficient funds in Alice's account. John then must notify Alice about the dishonoured cheque within a reasonable time to hold her accountable for the payment. If he delays unreasonably and doesn't inform Alice, he might lose the right to claim the amount from her later on.
