Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where the Central Government, in an effort to enhance the quality of medical education in India, decides to establish specialized bodies to oversee different aspects of medical education and practice. Following the mandate of Section 16 of The National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the government issues a notification to constitute four Autonomous Boards:

  • The Under-Graduate Medical Education Board is tasked with setting standards for medical colleges to ensure that undergraduate medical education is up to par with the requirements.
  • The Post-Graduate Medical Education Board is responsible for regulating the standards of postgraduate medical education, including specialization and super-specialization courses.
  • The Medical Assessment and Rating Board is created to carry out assessments and ratings of medical institutions to maintain transparency and accountability in medical education.
  • The Ethics and Medical Registration Board is established to oversee the ethical practices in the profession and maintain a national register of all licensed medical practitioners.

These Boards, while autonomous, operate under the regulations and supervision of the National Medical Commission to ensure a coordinated and standardized approach to medical education and practice across the country.
