Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in India receives intelligence about a large shipment of illegal drugs that is set to pass through India to a destination in another country. Rather than intercepting the shipment immediately, the Director General of the NCB decides to use the power granted under Section 50A of The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The Director General authorizes a controlled delivery, allowing the consignment to continue to its intended destination under close surveillance. This is done in order to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the drug trafficking network, both in India and in the destination country.
In this case, the NCB coordinates with the destination country's competent authority to ensure a smooth operation. The controlled delivery leads to the arrest of key figures in the drug trafficking operation and helps to dismantle a major international drug smuggling route.
