Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where John is driving his car with his friend Mike in the passenger seat. They are in a hurry to get to a football game and in the rush, they both forget to buckle up their seat belts. A traffic officer stops them at a checkpoint and notices that they are not wearing their seat belts. John is fined 1,000 rupees for himself and another 1,000 rupees for his passenger Mike, as per Section 194B(1) of The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which mandates the use of safety belts while driving.
In another instance, Sarah is driving with her 10-year-old son in the back seat. She has not provided a child restraint system or a seat belt for him. She is stopped by a traffic officer for a routine check and upon noticing the child without a seat belt or child restraint, she is fined 1,000 rupees in accordance with Section 194B(2) of the Act, which requires children under the age of fourteen to be secured by a safety belt or a child restraint system while the vehicle is in motion.
