Explanation using Example

Imagine John owns a car and his friend, Mike, who does not have a valid driving license, asks to borrow the car for a quick errand. John, knowing Mike doesn't have a license, still allows him to drive the car. On the way, Mike is stopped by the police for a routine check and is found to be driving without a license. Under Section 180 of The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, John, as the owner of the vehicle, would be held legally responsible for permitting an unlicensed person to drive. Consequently, John could face a penalty of imprisonment for up to three months, a fine of five thousand rupees, or both.
