Imagine a driver named Rohit is driving his car on a highway and decides to use his mobile phone to text. Unbeknownst to him, there is a regulation under Section 118 of The Motor Vehicles Act that prohibits the use of mobile devices while driving. A traffic officer spots Rohit and pulls him over. The officer informs Rohit that he has violated the regulations made under Section 118 and issues him a ticket. According to Section 177A, Rohit is now subject to a fine. The fine for this contravention is not less than five hundred rupees and could go up to one thousand rupees. In this case, Rohit is fined seven hundred rupees for the offense.
