Explanation using Example

Imagine you are driving your car through a busy market area and accidentally hit a street vendor's cart, causing some damage to the cart and the goods. A police officer, who is a Sub-Inspector in uniform, witnesses the incident and signals you to stop. In this scenario, according to Section 132(1) of The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, you are legally required to stop your car and provide your name and address, as well as the name and address of the owner of the vehicle, to the street vendor whose cart was damaged. You must remain at the scene for a reasonable time, not exceeding twenty-four hours, to ensure the matter is addressed appropriately. The street vendor must also provide you with his name and address when asking for your details.
