Explanation using Example

Imagine John has just purchased a brand new car from a different state and wants to drive it back to his home state. However, he cannot do so without proper registration. To comply with the law, John applies for temporary registration under Section 43 of The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. He approaches the local registering authority where the car dealer is located and submits the necessary documentation.

The authority, following the rules set by the Central Government, issues John a temporary certificate of registration and a temporary registration mark that allows him to legally drive his new car back home. This temporary registration is valid for a short period, enough for John to get permanent registration from the registering authority in his own state.
