Explanation using Example
Imagine a factory employing several women workers. The government appoints an Inspector to ensure compliance with the Maternity Benefit Act. The Inspector visits the factory and asks the manager to produce the attendance register to verify maternity leave records. However, the manager knows that he's not been granting maternity leaves as per the law and decides to hide the register. When the Inspector insists, the manager also instructs a pregnant employee not to speak with the Inspector. This act of the manager is a violation of Section 22 of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961. If caught, the manager could face imprisonment up to one year, a fine up to five thousand rupees, or both.
