Explanation using Example

Example Scenario:

Imagine a 16-year-old juvenile named Rohan was apprehended for theft. The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) assessed the case and decided to send Rohan to a special home for rehabilitation. Rohan's parents disagreed with the decision, believing that a different rehabilitation program would be more beneficial for their son's circumstances.

Under Section 101(1) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, Rohan's parents have the right to file an appeal against the JJB's order. They must do so within thirty days of the order, appealing to the Children's Court. Should they miss this deadline, they can still file the appeal if they can show that there was a sufficient cause for the delay, and the court must decide on the appeal within thirty days.
