Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where a 5-year-old girl is found alone at a railway station by a police officer. The girl appears to be abandoned and is unable to provide details about her parents or guardians. The police officer presents the child to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in compliance with Section 31 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

Upon receiving the child, the CWC initiates an inquiry to determine the best course of action for her care and protection. In accordance with Section 36(1), since the girl is below six years of age and appears to be abandoned, the CWC temporarily places her in a Specialised Adoption Agency while a social worker conducts a speedy social investigation.
