Imagine that the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has recently been brought under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 due to an amendment. According to Section 38:

• The existing Board of Governors at IIT Roorkee will continue their duties until a new Board is constituted under the amended Act. Once the new Board is formed, the old members will step down.
• The Academic Council that was in place before the amendment will operate until a new Senate is formed under the Act. After the Senate is established, the old Academic Council members will relinquish their positions.
• Until new Statutes and Ordinances are created for IIT Roorkee under the amended Act, the rules from IIT Bombay, as they were before the amendment, will be adapted and applied to IIT Roorkee, as long as they don't conflict with the new Act.

These provisions ensure a smooth transition from the old governance structure to the new one mandated by the Institutes of Technology Act, without disrupting the ongoing administration and academic processes at IIT Roorkee.
