Explanation using Example
Let's consider a hypothetical scenario to understand Section 77 of The Information Technology Act, 2000. Suppose Mr. A is found guilty of committing cyber fraud by hacking into Mr. B's bank account and transferring funds illegally. Under the IT Act, Mr. A is ordered to pay compensation to Mr. B and is also subjected to a penalty.
However, Mr. A's actions also constitute a violation under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for theft. As per Section 77 of the IT Act, the compensation and penalty imposed on Mr. A under the IT Act does not prevent further punishment under the IPC. Therefore, Mr. A could also face additional penalties or even imprisonment as per the provisions of the IPC. This is how Section 77 works in conjunction with other laws.
