Let's imagine a situation where John works in the IT department of a large corporation. He has access to the company's electronic records and other sensitive information due to the nature of his job. One day, out of personal grudge, John discloses some confidential electronic records and information to a competitor company without the consent of his employer. Here, John has violated Section 72 of The Information Technology Act, 2000. As a result, he could face imprisonment up to two years, or a fine up to one lakh rupees, or both, for his actions.
