Explanation using Example

Let's consider an example to illustrate the application of Section 6 of The Information Technology Act, 2000. John, a citizen of India, wants to apply for a driving license. As per this law:

  • (a) Instead of visiting the Road Transport Office (RTO) and filing a physical application, John can fill out an online application form on the RTO's website, which is an agency controlled by the appropriate Government.
  • (b) The RTO, instead of issuing a physical driving license, can grant John an electronic license that can be downloaded and printed.
  • (c) For the payment of the application fee, John can use electronic payment methods like credit/debit card, net banking, or digital wallets, instead of paying in cash or cheque at the RTO office.

(2) The Government has the authority to prescribe rules on how these electronic records should be filed, created, or issued, and how the payment should be made.
