Explanation using Example
Let's consider a hypothetical situation. Suppose there is a significant rise in cyber attacks targeting the nation's critical information infrastructure, such as power grids, water supply systems, and communication networks. To address this, under Section 70A of The Information Technology Act, 2000, the Central Government decides to designate an existing government organization, say the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), as the national nodal agency.
As per the law, the NCSA will now be responsible for all measures, including research and development, related to the protection of critical information infrastructure. The specific functions and duties of the NCSA, such as setting security protocols, coordinating with other agencies, and developing new security technologies, will be prescribed by the government in the manner it deems fit.
