Explanation using Example

Imagine a scenario where an individual, John, decides to commit burglary at a neighbor's house. He gathers all the necessary tools, does a stakeout to understand the neighbor's routine, and chooses a time when the house is expected to be empty. On the chosen day, John manages to break the lock and enters the house. However, before he can steal anything, the neighbor returns unexpectedly, and John flees the scene. Even though John did not complete the act of burglary, he attempted to commit the offence and performed acts towards its commission. Under Section 511 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, John can be punished for his attempt to commit burglary, which is an offence punishable with imprisonment.
