Explanation using Example

Imagine a person named Raj who owns a small business exporting spices. To cut costs, Raj decides to mix a cheaper variety of spice into packages labeled as premium quality. He then marks these packages with labels that falsely represent the contents as exclusively high-grade spice. A buyer, Anita, purchases these spices thinking they are premium quality, but later discovers the adulteration. Raj's act of marking the packages with false information to mislead Anita and other buyers about the quality and nature of the spices inside falls under the purview of Section 487 of the Indian Penal Code. If caught, Raj could be charged and, unless he can prove he did not intend to defraud, could face imprisonment, a fine, or both.
