Explanation using Example
Imagine a scenario where John, a shopkeeper, is approached by his friend Mike, who has just stolen a smartphone from a nearby store. Mike asks John to keep the phone in his shop for a few days until the situation calms down. John is aware that the smartphone is stolen but agrees to hide it behind his counter. A few days later, the police investigate and find the stolen smartphone in John's shop. Under Section 414 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860, John could be charged for assisting in concealing stolen property, as he knew the smartphone was stolen and voluntarily agreed to hide it, making him liable for punishment of up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
