Explanation using Example
Imagine John, a shopkeeper, is approached by a man selling a smartphone at a price significantly lower than market value. The man is in a hurry to sell and has no credible explanation for the low price. John, suspecting the phone may be stolen but enticed by the profit he could make, buys the phone and sells it in his shop. A few days later, the police trace the phone to John's shop and determine it was indeed stolen. John could be charged under Section 411 of The Indian Penal Code, 1860, for dishonestly receiving stolen property, as he had reason to believe the phone was stolen and yet chose to retain and sell it.
